Places to visit in Tenkasi

Tenkasi is situated along the Western ghats, suurounded by Blue Mountains. Tenkasi is such a beautiful district with a number of falls and other scenic places.

  1. Kasi Viswanathar Temple

Description: The deity of Kasi Viswanathar Temple is Lord Shiva and his consort Parvathi. It was built by Parakrama Pandiyan.

The distance between all the places in this page are considered with Kasi Viswanathar Temple as reference.

2. Main Falls

Description: Main falls is a sizeable scenic water falls. The water falls from a height of 30-40 m and the water has some medical benefits since it flows down after running through herbs from Mountains.

Time: No Time restriction. At times we are not allowed to take bath when there is heavy water flow.

3. Five falls

Description: The five falls is a water fall with five segments of water. There are many Private falls on the way to the 5 falls.

4. Old Falls

Description: Old Courtallam Falls, regionally known as Pazhaya Courtallam, is situated along with the road to Tenkasi. The 200 ft. fall features steps that are cut out into the rocks for breaking flow of cascading water.

Time: No Time restriction. At times we are not allowed to take bath when there is heavy water flow.

5. Gundaru Dam(Kannu Pulimedu Falls)

Description: Gundaru Dam is a dam along with falls located in the Shencottai region of Tenkasi district.  The route is little dense. There are many Private falls on the way to the dam.

Time: Not exact data available. Better to reach from 10.0 am to 3.00 pm

6. Puliaruvi

Description: Tiger Falls is located at about 2 Kms away from Courtallam bus stand. This waterfall is very small that is suitable for the kids and the old people to enjoy. It is situated between the Main Falls and Old Courtallam.

Time: No Time restriction. At times we are not allowed to take bath when there is heavy water flow.

Distance from Kasi Viswanathar Temple: 5.6 km

7. Sittraruvi

Description:  It is situated near the mains falls. Small falls, If other falls are crowded prefer taking this falls.

Time: No Time restriction. At times we are not allowed to take bath when there is heavy water flow.

Distance from Kasi Viswanathar Temple: 6.1 km

Prefer covering all the falls in one day and other places the next day. After taking bath in the falls eat at Rahmath Hotel which is very famous.

8. Rahmath Hotel

The Hotel is very famous for it parrotta and pepper chicken.

8. Adavi Nainar Dam

Description:  The Adavinainar Dam is located at the foothills of Western Ghats and border of Kerala, built across the Hanumanadhi River near Mekkarai, Vadakarai in the Tenkasi district of Tamil Nadu, Southern India.

9. Thirumalai Koil 

Description: The deity of Thirumalai Koil is Thirumalai Kumarasamy or Thirumalai Murugan. The temple is situated at the hill top. We can use steps to climb(624 steps) or the road way to the top of the hill is available. There are omni vans that take trips to the temple from the bottom and back to the bottom.

The view from the top is beautiful. Must visit place at Tenkasi.

Time: 6 am to 1.30 pm and 4 pm to 8.15 pm

10. Ilanji Kumarar Temple

Description: The deity God at this temple is Murugan. It is present in the path between Tenkasi and Thirumalai Koil. So while visiting Thirumalai Koil you can plan to visit this temple. 

The way to this temple is so beautiful as below. Early morning walks at the road to this temple is very peaceful.

Time: 06.15 am to 12.15 pm and 04.15 pm to 08.15 pm

11. ECO Park

Description:  The ECO park is situated near Five falls also known as Aruvi Poonga. The area is 37.23 acres of green area. It is difficult to cover the entire area. If you need some place to spend time with your family, you can take them here.

12. Sundarapandiapuram

Description:  Sundarapandiapuram is a small village in Tenkasi. It is famous for its Sunflower fields which are fully grown during the months of August and September. The road to this area is fine. The Early morning view of this fields are such a beauty.

13. Sani Eeswaran Temple

Description:  The deity God in this temple is Saneeswarar. 

Time: 06.00 am to 09.00 am and 05.00 pm to 08.00 pm

Distance from Kasi Viswanathar Temple: 7.3 km

14. Guru Temple

Description:  The deity God here is Thatchinamoorthy(Guru). It is a Guru parikara Temple. The way to this temple from Tenkasi is full of Green hills and lakes.

Time: 08.00 am to 11.00 am and 05.00 pm to 07.30 pm
